Screening for Optimum Conditioning

Whether you are an athlete or you are simply training for health and fitness reasons, then avoiding injury and optimising your performance are often at the top of your list.  In order to avoid any potential issues it is important that you understand your risk factors in relation to injuries and what areas you can target to optimise conditioning.

Kevin McQuoid has developed and evolved an athlete screening template, drawing on his experience over the past 23 years in professional sport, which he utilises for rugby, team sports and general exercising population. The screening process helps identify potential issues and conditioning requirements for you as an individual.

Susie Pirret has a wealth of knowledge and experience in triathlon, multi sport, swimming and surf life saving therefore can offer athlete screening and programming in these disciplines.

Gavin Lee in his youth was an NZ junior track cycling sprint champion competing and riding professionally in in Europe and for NZ. He is now a ‘mad’ downhill mountain biking enthusiast and can offer athlete screening, bike set up and programming advice to cyclists (recreational, road, mountain biking).

Sport and Gym Specific Programming

Kevin, Susie and Gavin have extensive strength and conditioning training and experience at international levels over many years.  Combined with injury screening and injury prevention programs we offer further programming to increase strength, endurance and sport specific fitness for all levels and general fitness.

Our team can meet with you at any gym in Pukekohe to go through programs and also review them at appropriate periods to ensure maximum benefit.  Home and field based programmes for conditioning are also available.

It is their strong belief that physiotherapists with strength and conditioning backgrounds make the best trainers as our focus is on ‘do no harm’ and programmes are developed from an injury prevention point of view.

Recovery Therapy

Recovery is an essential component of training and playing sport or events (e.g. Ironman), enabling the athlete to train and compete again as soon as possible.

With Kevin McQuoid’s professional sporting experience where recovery is critical to performance we offer a new service at Pukekohe Physiotherapy – ‘Recovery Therapy’.

This involves massage, mobilisation, assisted stretching and dry needling where indicated to increase muscle / tendon length and decrease tone in muscles, enabling a quicker return to training and improved performance in the next game.  Optimum timing for this is 24 to 48 hours post game (rugby etc)or event (marathon etc).
